How to Cure a Hangover

Going out on a Saturday night can be fun but all that fun can turn to regret the next morning when you realize you have a hangover. There are countless cures for hangovers, all promising relief, but many are old wives' tales. While there is no cure-all, here is a list of ideas on how to cure a hangover.

  1. First: Take an Alka Seltzer and get some sleep

    When you wake up the next morning grab an Alka Seltzer. The Alka Seltzer helps reduce the symptoms of a hangover within minutes of taking it. After you do this, get back to bed. The damage is done and now your body needs to recover from the previous night. So if you can, try to sleep it off.

  2. Second: Rehydrate

    Some of the nastiest symptoms of a hangover are caused by dehydration. Drink lots of fluids. Try a sports drink like Gatorade or Powerade. If you do not have that try drinking water or fruit juice. Drinks rich in Vitamin C, like orange juice, are also beneficial. Avoid drinks with caffeine. Caffeine dehydrates you and could cause the hangover symptoms to be worse.

    Try eating food like canned fish and pickles. It is said that in Poland drinking pickle juice is effective. You can also drink a Bloody Mary with a shot of vodka. The tomato juice and celery are rich in vitamins and may help eliminate your hangover - kind of like fighting fire with fire.

  4. Fourth: Take a shower

    Taking a shower opens up your pores and relaxes your muscles. Plus, it just feels good.
